Type Locality and Naming
It was named by Wang Naiwen, Liu Guifang and Chen Guoming in 1983. The naming section is located at the Zhangda Village of Zhangda District, Langkazi County, Tibet, and stretches eastwards till the Zhela Mts, and its reference section is situated on the southern slope of the Shelangre Mts in the Longbuxue District, Langkazhi County, Tibet as reaches as far as Bajiutang area. Lithology and Thickness
Lower member of the formation is composed of black-grey, grey-yellow medium-bedded quartz-sandstone, intercalated with ferruginous and siliceous siltstones and silty shales, with a thickness of 50 m. Upper member of the formation is composed of grey, grey-green and grey-black thin-bedded siliceous shales, siliceous siltstones, and chert-, and tuffaceous shales, intercalated with sandstone lenses, with a thickness of 100 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The basal part of the formation of quartz-sandstone and siltstone is in a conformable contact with the grey medium-thick fine-crystalline limestone, marl and shale on the top of the underlying Xiaxi Fm.
Upper contact
Its top part is in an unconformable contact with the grey-white medium-bedded and medium-, and coarse-grained quartz-sandstone at the base of the Kadong Fm
Regional extent
The formation is exposed in the areas of Zhela, Xiaxi, and Bajiutang of the Lougbuxue District on the east side of the Yamdrok Co, with its exposures being found in the area of the Nariyong Co as well. Its lithology is consistent, with its thickness varying from 80 m to 300 m.

Fossils
The upper member of the formation yields bivalves as represented by Inoceramus sp., and a great amount of alga fossils.
